Another week, another launch—this time, it’s yet another subcompact crossover. This one’s from Kia, and it’s the official replacement for the Stonic: the all-new Kia Sonet.
This new offering has a lot going for it, and it’s priced competitively at that. On paper, it’ll stack up nicely against the likes of the Toyota Raize and MG ZS. But how exactly does it look like ‘on paper?’ Well, let’s take a deeper dive.

Variants and prices
Four variants are available at launch, and the range starts with the base manual LX MT trim priced atP758,000. It tops out with the SX AT which stickers forP1.138 million. You can check out the full price list below.

Exterior
The Sonet has a familiar Kia-like design with that signature Tiger Nose grille up front. This one has a more aggressive-looking front fascia than most Kias, though, because the trim that house the Star Map signature LEDlights flow all the way down to the fog lamps.
There are plastic underbody cladding that wrap around the vehicle, all the way to the rear where you’ll find taillights that match the headlamps up front. There’s a small wing up top and more plastic trim underneath for this top-spec Sonet.
This vehicle measures4,110mm long,1,790mm wide, and1,642mm tall(1,625 for LX variants) and has a2,500nn wheelbase. Minimum ground clearance is listed at 205mm, and gross vehicle weight is at1,605kg for the SX and EX and1,575kg for the LX.
The Sonet sits on standard 16-inch alloy wheels save for the manual variant which gets steelies. These are all shod in 205/55 R16 tires.
Color options include Pewter Olive, Vivid Red, Snow White Pearl, and Imperial Blue. The red and white colorways are also available with two-tone blacktop finishes.
Interior
The inside of the all-new Sonet is adorned by a mixture of hard plastics, gloss-black trim, leather bits, and other soft-touch materials. It’s clean and pleasing to the eyes, and while it does have a boatload of buttons, knobs, and other things on the dash, it doesn’t look overwhelming at all.
The seats here in the top-spec SX are stitched in brown leather with black accents on the sides, while lower variants get fabric seats. There’s plenty of room for most average-sized passengers in any of the seats as well, and the rear bench folds down to open up cargo space at the back.
Engine and specs
The lone engine option available in the Sonet range is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline mill that generates113hpat 6,300rpm and144Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. This is mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or the Korean car brand’s patentedIntelligent Variable Transmission.
The suspension setup underneath is comprised of MacPherson struts at the front and a coupled torsion beam axle at the rear. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes all around.
Extra features
Niceties available in the Sonet include an eight-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which comes as standard. This is paired with a 4.2-inch LCD instrument cluster. In the top-spec SX trim, however, these displays both grow to 10.25 inches.
Other top-of-the-line-exclusive features include a wireless charging pad and automatic climate control. This trim also gets the full safety suite, with tech such as lane-keep and lane-follow assist, forward-collision avoidance assist, downhill brake control, high-beam assist, driver attention warning, and electronic stability control. Both SX and EX variants get cruise control.
