  1. Turn on your oven's broil function. If your oven doesn't have a broiler, preheat the oven to 450° Fahrenheit.
  2. Remove the salmon from the fridge and allow it to warm up to room temperature. About 15 minutes.
  3. Put the salmon in a Cast Iron Skillet. Season both sides with sweet smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Put the salmon with the skin side facing up into the oven. Set your kitchen timer to 6 minutes.
  5. Flip the salmon and put it back into the oven. Set the timer to 6 minutes. If you see that your salmon has a nice golden crust, you're done. Sometimes if the salmon is thicker, you need to add another minute or two.
  6. Remove the salmon from the oven. Allow it to rest for a couple of minutes in the skillet. This allows the juices to come out, and you'll have a nice piece of fully-cooked salmon. Serve and enjoy.

Leftover Ideas

I’ve served the roasted salmon over everything from yummy salads to classic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. And really, the sky is the limit! My husband loves a next-day salmon sandwich.

Serving Suggestions

SALMON ON TOAST - Take the leftover salmon out of the fridge and let it warm up to room temperature. Meanwhile, toast your favorite bread. Spread some hummus on the toast. Add the salmon on top; voila, you’ve created a great lunch option.

SALMON ON PASTA - Another yummy leftover possibility for roasted salmon is pasta. We love roasted salmon with Mascarpone and Pear Pasta.

SALMON AND SOUP - Salmon and soup are also a great second-day alternative, especially during soup season in the fall and winter. Butternut Squash Soup and Salmon make a delicious combination. Cut the roasted salmon into bite-sized pieces and add it to the soup.

SALMON SALAD - Last but not least, roasted salmon and salad. We have a version of the dish pretty much every week. At the moment, I love thissalad recipe!

This looks amazing. I’m so excited to buy fresh salmon and make this recipe. Just to confirm, you don't use any oil when you roast the salmon?

What can I use in place f a cast iron skillet?

Hi Cathy. Great question. I've got a workaround that's technically not the same recipe, because we're not broiling the salmon, but it works. 🙂
Use a regular baking sheet, cover with parchment paper, place the salmon (skin side down) in the center. Season with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika, and roast at 425º Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes.
Bonus tip: My family has recently been loving Trader Joe's French Fries and I'll add those to the same baking sheet. It's the easiest dinner ever. Hope that helps. 🙂
