Throughout my journey with Private Secretary Group, I’ve been inspired by many successful black leaders who have paved the way and shown what’s possible. Figures like Sharon White, whose leadership at John Lewis has set a new standard in the retail industry, and Steven Bartlett, whose insights on business and leadership through his podcast ‘The Diary of a CEO’ have inspired countless individuals, remind me of the importance of resilience and innovation. ✨Their stories, along with those of Jamelia Donaldson of TreasureTress, who created a space in the beauty industry that caters specifically to the needs of the black community, and Levi Roots, whose Reggae Reggae Sauce has become a household name, are a testament to the impact black professionals can have across various industries. As a black business owner, I’m committed to building a legacy that not only supports our healthcare professionals but also contributes to the growing narrative of black excellence in business. 🌟This Black History Month, I’m proud to reflect on the rich legacy of black leadership and to celebrate the achievements of those who continue to break barriers and pave the way for future generations. It’s a reminder that our stories matter, our contributions are invaluable, and our potential is limitless. 🔗To all aspiring leaders out there: stay inspired, stay resilient, and let’s continue to support each other’s growth and success. Together, we’re building a future that honours our past and empowers the next generation. 🙌🏽Who are the black leaders that have inspired you, and how do you recognise the importance of black leadership in your field? Let’s continue the conversation on how we can contribute to breaking barriers and creating more opportunities.#BlackHistoryMonth #BlackLeadership #Inspiration #Legacy #BreakingBarriers #BlackExcellence #ProfessionalGrowth #HealthcareSupport #Resilience

Black Management…🤔I’ve always been a strong advocate for seeing Black people in leadership roles, moving from the margins to the center of society. But recently, I’ve been reflecting on my own experiences. Unfortunately, many of the Black managers I’ve had have not lived up to expectations. I’m not generalizing, but after speaking with colleagues who’ve had similar experiences, it seems to be a common issue.Historically, we’ve been at the bottom of society. When we do reach leadership roles, a power struggle can sometimes take over—often without realizing it. In my own experience, it’s been difficult seeing Black managers act in ways that show a lack of personal development. The way they communicate and behave is different, and sometimes there’s a belief that because we share the same culture, certain behavior is acceptable—it’s not.🔑 Treat everyone with respect and equality, no matter their background.💡 I want to challenge all Black leaders out there: continue to grow, develop, and strive to be the best version of yourself. Let’s lead with integrity and respect!#Leadership #DiversityInLeadership #BlackManagement #RespectAndEquality #GrowthAndDevelopment #ChallengeYourself #LeadershipGoals #Empowerment #LeadershipMatters

You could advise companies on the significance of addressing racism and bias, yet some may merely treat it as a checkbox item. As a Black employee, a company's DE&I strategy and awards don't captivate my interest. History has proven that recognition can be granted for actions contrary to humanity. For leaders operating under the ethic of care and seeking a turnaround, be prepared for a challenging journey ahead. It's going to be a long year, akin to gearing up for a battle.Reflect on that. #diversityandinclusion #ethicalleadership

The Golden Age of Black Business (1900-1930) saw thriving Black-owned enterprises in a racially divided US, as noted by Dr. Juliet E.K. Walker. From small local shops to international ventures, businesses like Annie Turnbo-Malone's "Poro" brand flourished. The success of these enterprises was rooted in a community-focused approach, creating jobs and supporting local well-being. The need for such efforts arose from government and corporate failures post-slavery. Today, despite corporate promises, some still fall short in stakeholder capitalism, evident in pandemic-era disparities. Let's explore the alternative approaches of two early 20th-century Black business leaders. #BlackBusiness #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory

🚨 Communicators/Leaders - sharing here some tips gained from my time at MyNavyHR to leverage Black History Month as a way to honor employees of that background and celebrate the organization's rich history of trailblazers. Some things you can do...🌟 Employee Spotlights: Discovering the exceptional individuals in your organizations who proudly embrace their Black heritage. Sharing their stories, experiences, and achievements creates a sense of pride and unity within your teams.🌟 Leadership Acknowledgments: Highlighting influential Black leaders within your organization who have made a lasting impact can be empowering. Recognizing their accomplishments not only inspires others but also underscores the strength that diverse leadership brings to your organization.🌟 Black History Month Events: Organizing engaging virtual panels, workshops, or webinars featuring inspiring Black speakers can have an impact as well. These events provide a platform for open conversations, fostering understanding and connection in your workplace.🌟 Service and Shared History: Take time to visit culturally significant places that exemplify Black History in your town with your team. Also, consider doing a clean-up or other restoration as a company alongside the community. I have been privileged to learn from and serve with so many great Black leaders. Let this month be a time of listening, learning, and celebrating.
