Tips and variations for making this Christmas cookie jello shots recipe:

● You can use Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier. Each will change the taste slightly but choose according to your personal preference.

● Finish the top layer of your holiday jello shots with real whipped cream and red sprinkles, green sprinkles, a mix of the two, or some other holiday-inspired jimmies or sprinkles just before serving.

● You can play around with the liquor quantities provided it adds up to one cup. The quantities listed in the recipe result in a more Bailey-ish Jello shot whereas you may prefer the butterscotch or orange to be more pronounced.

Some suggested liquor quantities:

¼ cup Butterscotch Liqueur
½ cup Bailey’s Irish Cream
¼ cup Cointreau Liqueur

Or, try 1/3 of a cup of each liquor for a more orange-y taste.

How to Make Jello Shots:

Jello Shots are pretty easy to make. This is the basic recipe anyone can follow:

● 2 packets unflavored gelatin (Knox gelatin or store brand)
● 1 cup of water
● 1 cup of vodka /rum/tequila/whiskey/schnapps/liqueurs (alcohol of choice)

The 1 cup of some sort of spirits is the key. The different flavor combinations of alcoholic beverages are what makes the tasty jello shot varieties when using unflavored gelatin.

The souffle cups are 2oz, and a shot glass is 1oz, 1.5oz, or 2oz normally, so you may get a different number of servings depending on the vessel you use to set the gelatin.

FAQs

What is the best alcohol to use for jello shots? ›

Colorful and delicious, boozy Jell-O shots are always a sure hit at any party. Sometimes called "jelly" shots, these popular shooters can be made in any gelatin flavor and spiked with your favorite liquor. Vodka and rum are the most popular options, but you can use just about anything.

Should alcohol be cold when making jello shots? ›

If you are in a hurry, you can set your jello faster by having your liquids as cold as possible when starting to make your shots. You can have your alcohol in the freezer to get it cold, and/or you can add some ice cubes in with your cold water and remove the ice that's left after 2-3 minutes.

Can you use Dixie cups for jello shots? ›

Yes, you can! You definitely don't need fancy cups to make jello shots!

Why are my pudding shots runny? ›

Remember when using any alcohol that is more than 80 proof can make your pudding shots runny. Most vodkas run at 80 proof and that is usually the highest alcohol content booze I use so you should be fine. But always good to check. Don't skip the Cool Whip.

What happens if you put too much vodka in jello shots? ›

Jello shots won't set properly if you add too much alcohol. Generally, a basic batch of jello shots is made with one cup of juice or water, one packet of gelatin, 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of alcohol. However, jello shots can be made with as much as 2/3 cup alcohol without changing their texture.

When making jello shots do you replace the water for alcohol? ›

Their key takeaways:
  1. A standard recipe made with 3 ounces of Jell-O powder calls for 5 ounces of 80-proof vodka and 11 ounces of water, but this results in a shot that tastes watered-down.
  2. To make a stronger shot, use just 4 ounces of water and between 8 and 14 ounces of vodka (to taste)

Do jello shots get stronger the longer they sit? ›

Jello Shots, like life, are all about balance. That said, if you want a strong one, it is possible if you leave it in the fridge long enough. In a Supercall experiment, we found that the strongest Jello Shot that will set is three-to-one ratio of 80-proof alcohol to water, and it took a full day to become mostly solid.

How many jello shots does a 6 oz box make? ›

1 small box of jello yields about 15 jello shots (2 cups of liquid). 2 boxes (or 1 large 6 oz. box) yield 30 shots, which will fit nicely on a baking sheet to transport them easily to the refrigerator.

Do you spray cups for jello shots? ›

Place shot glasses on a baking tray for easy transport. Pour gelatin mixture into paper or plastic shot cups* and chill in refrigerator until set, 1 hour or more. *Reviewers suggest coating the shot cups lightly with cooking spray so the shots slide right out.

How do you keep jello shots from sticking to the cup? ›

To avoid this, try spraying your plastic cups with non-stick cooking spray. Or you can forego the cups by using food-grade syringes designed for Jell-O shots, or making the shots as one big sheetpan of Jell-O and then cutting them into squares to avoid the plastic waste altogether.

Why is my Christmas pudding wet? ›

The basin is wrapped in a layer of foil to help prevent the lid from popping off during steaming. This should keep the pudding watertight, but if the water in the pan boils too hard then it can still seep into the pudding basin.

What to do with failed pudding? ›

If you want to try to fix it, you can try dissolving a little bit of cornstarch in water and adding that in. Then try using a handheld or stand mixer to whip the pudding up until is starts to thicken. It will probably never set up completely, though, but it may help a little.

Can you put pudding shots in syringes? ›

Whisk 2 minutes or until thickened and smooth. Suck up pudding into each syringe (alternatively spoon into serving bowls), cap, and place in fridge for 5 minutes or until set.

Does it matter what vodka you use for jello shots? ›

What brand of Vodka can I use for making Jello shots? The brand is entirely up to you - but if it was me I'd go budget brand like Absolut or Stoli and you can have a lot of mixing the flavored vodka with jello flavors - off the top of my head I would say Strawberry Jello with Absolut Peppar.

How much alcohol should you put in jello shots? ›

Their key takeaways: A standard recipe made with 3 ounces of Jell-O powder calls for 5 ounces of 80-proof vodka and 11 ounces of water, but this results in a shot that tastes watered-down. To make a stronger shot, use just 4 ounces of water and between 8 and 14 ounces of vodka (to taste)

Why didn't my jello shots set? ›

Maybe you didn't stir it well enough to mix it evenly. Or something else entirely - the directions don't seem like the best way to handle gelatine. You can try to save the next package. I would start with letting the water cool just a little bit before stirring in the jello, maybe 75 or 80°C.

Does vodka replace the cold water in jello shots? ›

Empty jello powder into a large mixing bowl and add the boiling water. Continue stirring for two minutes or until the jello is completely dissolved. Add in the 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of vodka. Stir until mixed and pour into 2oz.
