2017 Baseball Season Preview

The Comet baseball program is rich with tradition and despite manynew faces in the starting lineup there is excitment and anticipation for the upcoming season. One of the reasons for the excitment is a major upgrade to the baseball field with installation of turf on the infield and in foul territory. The program also received a boost with the completion of a brand newindoor hitting facility.

The 2017 team will be replacing 8 out of 9 positionplayersthis year as junior outfielder Lloyd Nash will be the only returning starter. The strength of the Comet defense will be the 2 returning senior pitchers Brennan Gilberti and Evan Pfister who both helped carry the team to the 2A state championship game in Sulphur last year. "Our pitching will be there, we just have to have confidence in the defense behind us. Expectations are still high for the team because of the program's tradition" said Evan Pfister.2017 Season (9)

The young team will have a tough schedule ahead of them, but nothing the program hasn't faced before. "We lost 8 starters and 3 assistant coaches but the expectations don't change. We hope our pitching and defense will give us time for the young lineup to develop," said head coach Wayne Stein. Despite youth and inexperience the future looks bright for the 2017 Comet baseball team.

The Comets open the season with 3 scrimmages against Mandeville, Destrehan and Vandebilt all on the road. The first game on the new turf will be at the annual Comet Jamboree on Saturday, February 18.
